A lot has been happening with me and this year has been a doozy. I’ve latched on to escapism, and it has been a lifesaver. I’ve dived back into reading and taken a step back from making things and it hasn’t destroyed me like I thought it would. I’ve taken this year as a testament to my ability to pivot. I am now caring for a family member with dementia, but I’ve also gone back to school to get my associate’s degree and tech certification. My kids are growing and so is my marriage, to be honest, life is going hard these days.

So, since I’ve taken to reading and I’ve always loved reviewing things, I’ve decided to turn to reviewing the books I read. I’ve read between 6-10 books this year and let me tell you it has ignited a fire that has made me latch on to the only joy I’ve been able to hold on to. We’re in October and I wish I had started sooner but better late than never. So I’m setting some goals for myself.

Goal:
1. Try and focus on indie authors.
2. At least finish one book every 2 months.
3. Keep it fun.

That last goal is the most important for me to keep. So much of what I thought blogging would be is format and reach and blah, blah, blah. The truth is that I blog how I talk because it keeps me honest in my voice but also authentic to who I am. With that being said, I read the ACOTAR series up to this point and I don’t think I’ll review them simply because I don’t think the world needs another opinion on them. However, I will be reading the next and last (hopefully) installment of the series because I’m invested in the story.

There are, however, some indie authors that I’ve found, and they happen to also be BIPOC authors, so I feel like they could use authentic reviews but also recognition for their efforts. I won’t be reviewing exclusively BIPOC authors but I will be expanding my reach as far as what I’m looking for when picking things to read. If there are any suggestions please leave a comment.
