The overalls (circa. 2019)

*TL;DR at the bottom

I started strong using pins, a pattern, and cut using my rotary cutter. Things were even going well enough that I pressed some seams. LORT when I tell you things escalated quickly, I MEANS it. I cut out the 4 pieces and started sewing and it was a shit show shortly thereafter.

What I Did Wrong

  • I sewed the legs together
-I had to seam rip them apart, they formed a skirt.
  • Didn’t press my seams
-I had to rely too much on pins and my own tension.
  • Didn’t iron my fabric before I started.
-I wasn’t mindful of where my WIP was placed so it wrinkled a lot.
  • Changed the pattern
-I abandoned the pattern and didn’t use another one for reference, so I had to wing it with placement.

What Worked

  • I washed my fabric before I started.
  • Started with pressed seams (once I picked things back up).
  • Used a rotary cutter and fabric scissors. -I may be in the minority but I prefer my cutter on the curves and my scissors on the straight cuts.

TL;DR
I tried my best not to let my ADHD keep me from making this project a success. I struggled following the pattern and sewing along the margins. I ended up deviating from the pattern after I cut the legs. So I pretty much winged this whole operation.

All things considered, I think the over-alls turned out great! What I learned is that I need to slow down and work harder not feeling like I NEED to finish something by a certain time. Have you ever had a project you just couldn’t keep things together? Let me know in the comments.
